Labels and Blogging Vacation

For all two of you that read my blog, I'm going to take a blogging vacation. This will be my last post this year. In the meantime, I was watching the show Duel last night and I found it funny that every person on that show has a label. Labels like the Belly Dancer, the Used Car Salesman, and the Telemarketer are used to help a contestant pick their duelmate. The host then explains how teh labels are incomplete and how the Belly Dancer actually has a 4.0 GPA or that the Football Playing Telemarketer that loves Dirty Dancing (the movie, not the activity).

I know I like labels. For example, I am an ESTJ. I am a Student Minister. I hate though saying either of those things at a party because A) I hate being labeled as a Minister only (no more than a person being labeled as just a lawyer or something else) and B) no one knows what ESTJ means.

We label things/people we want to understand better and we remained focused on those labels.

What label are you given that you can't stand? What labels do you put on others?

Amen to this post...I like labels, too, but it's something I struggle with as well. Labels are very much imperfect, and people go well beyond the "simple" labels that can be assigned to them. The labels we assign to others can disappoint us, as well as blind us to who the person really is.

I'm an ESTJ as well, so I definitely know what that means ;-)

See you both soon! Looking forward to it! Enjoy your blogging vacation and have a safe trip north.

being an ENFP, I tend to hate labels because I don't need everything to be defined and ordered, I prefer it to be free flowing and easy....ha ha, just a little Myers-Briggs humor.

Have a good Christmas, man!
